Well, after 12 years my trusty Garrett Carrot shot the monkey. I remember there being a lot of fake ones out there, so how do I tell, other than them being $22.95 LOL

I need to find a good used one. I can't afford $120 for a new one.

Thanks

I believe the fake ones have a wider serial number box, which also seems to be the case in this video.

The last time I bought a used one off ebay I just made sure the seller had good rep, allowed for returns, and I called garrett to double check the serial number.

Also I think garrett will repair broken carrots for a reasonable price.

I'm going by the MPN 1140900. That SHOULD be a true Garrett, but you never know anymore.

It was that video that got me worried. It says a real Garrett doesn't come with the lanyard. I see them on eBay for $129 and they come with a lanyard.

Actually, it was 11 years, but hey, it is old. I never abused it like I see others use it for digging. I wore holes in the tip but only from running it in the dirt and sand. I put on a tip protector and all was good. It is also why I swear by the Garrett Carrot.

I had also glued a magnet on the back to pick up iron like tacks, hair pins, and paper clips.

I have a " slip over cover for my Carrot" and so far it will probably last longer than me, lol, I agree , it doesn't hurt to protect it some, especially if you use it alot, and maybe ( abuse it ) lol ;) ;)
