Hi all - I found this copper coin this evening in my field in central Massachusetts. Quite deep and quite honestly I thought it was just an 1800s large cent until I took a closer look at home. Property Has been active since the mid-1700s. I’ve gone through the red book 4 times and can’t find a match. Very distinctive oval pattern with words I can’t make out on the reverse.

Obverse is in tougher shape but has some clear letters. …nce du b….

Perhaps foreign? French?

Appreciate any thoughts.

not as old or rare as I was hoping but I definitely learned something new on this one. Issued in 1837 for use in lower Canada

Nice job on the ID.
Not 1700s but it is probably cooler than a KG anyway! Congratulations!
