Don't know. Probably someone that REALLY hates detectorists. These things will really give you fits. :wow:

I also have found lots of these rings. I have no idea as to what they are. Mine range from 3 in. to 1 in. and all sizes in between.

The rings that vary in size from 0.75 to 1.5 inches are now thought to be belt fitments being attached to to a waist belt with a leather thong. One or more would be used depending on how much the owner wanted to suspend from his belt.
Everyone would have at least one to attach his/hers purse or pouch.
Hurbert, Alan and Kurt from Germany did a great deal of research on to the various rings found by detectorists. One difference between the U.K. and the continent is that our rings always seem to be plain but they find examples with various decoration patterns.

thanx brian
wish i,d found some of those pouches with those rings
cheers

check out la-detection.com and they will tell you something about those rings also check out ukdnforum that has a great post concerning those damn rings I have a few too and fusaioles and spindle whorls and roulles

rings and things don't you just love em??

i've found rings like that all over the place, especially around horse stalls and barns. there must be at least half a dozen on a horse dressed out in full tack. the big ones were used to cinch up a saddle, three or four on a harness. they have shown up more recently on peoples belts. in some cases they actually serve a purpose, as in climbers gear.
