Holy Guacamole ! All I'm reading is excuses on how Not to hunt The Storm of the Century. Except for SH. Poor guy has Covid , a broken wrist and a wife that's taking time away from hunting. Which you guys would never do. Not to mention he drove for Hours and got a 5

️ Notell Motel. But he's making it happen. Now we just gotta see the rewards....
Not much in rewards department today, except that I'm still alive, made it through the day, so I'll count that as a reward. NOT covid, lol. It's a combination of bronchitis and sinus infection, had this before but last time also had an ear infection, so it was a trifecta. No ear infection currently, fingers crossed, so I'm dealing with 2 infections this time, plus the tendonitis thing, so I guess I'm back to another trifecta.
Not afraid to admit, but after 3 hours of hunting, I was ready to drop. I was about 3 blocks down from the wife, so I turned around and worked a combination of high wet and the dry. I just wanted to get back and plop down in my chair, I was bone tired, and all the chest rattling coughing made my entire mid-section hurt. It took some time to get back. I'd swing for a minute or two, then need to stop to catch my breath & rest a bit. I used that time to stare out at the ocean and enjoy the view. There were still some very large waves coming in, so took time to enjoy, then continued swing the coil.
Once I got back, sitting down felt so good, but that only lasted a few minutes. Decided to call it, so we headed back to the truck to start making our way back to hotel. Promised the wife before the trip that I'd take her to some stores, she had a little shopping to do, so we hit a few. I dropped her off, me & dog waited in the truck. After we got back to hotel, I walked across the parking lot to a pharmacy and got a couple tubes of anti-inflammatory gel per my doc's recommendation for the tendonitis and got a day/night combo of Muscinex to deal with the coughing, sinus, and all that.
I was feeling so bad when I tried waking up at 0630 this morning that I kept resetting alarm. It took a couple hours to wake up and get ready to hit the beach. Luckily, the wife volunteered to come with the dog while I hunted, saving me from coming back, getting them and having to turn around and go back. She knew how bad I was feeling so she did me a solid. She could see I was totally out of steam from the infections and exertion on the beach. Digging was twice as hard this time due to coughing and breathing, then was also excruciatingly painful at times due to the tendonitis. I couldn't turn my scoop over with my left hand to dump the sand, too painful, so I had to set the bucket on the sand and kick it over with my foot. I knew it was gonna be slow going, but slow going is better than no going.
Truth be told, I was friggin' wiped out after hunting for 3 hours. This coughing, sinus thing has taken a lot out of me, coupled with walking pretty far in shallow water, the wet, and even the dry, then digging much slower than normal and trying not to blow up my left forearm & wrist. So, on one hand, physically, I totally felt like crap, but on the other hand, deep down, I felt great that I got out, a sense of victory so to speak, medical illnesses be damned, lol.
Going back out tomorrow, this time by myself, the wife wants to stay back to get some sleep, as my coughing kept her awake all last night, so she was pretty wiped out herself today. I'll try to get up early enough to make low tide at 1030, but the way I've been feeling, if I don't make low tide, I'm not gonna stress it. It's funny how when you feel like crap, things that you normally care a great deal about, you just don't seem to give a sh*t about. It's like my usual hard-core attitude was changed to medium/low-core. So, low tide or not, I'll just go and hunt, do my thing, and hopefully make some good finds.
I'll be at a different beach tomorrow, today's beach kinda sucked. 2 guys were hunting the block long stretch I was hunting when we arrived, looks like they were swinging Manti's. Found a few zincoln's, 50 cal military projectile, and lots of space poop using my Sov. Tomorrow, it's the Dual Field's turn at one of my favorite beaches. Was initially thinking about wearing waders tomorrow since the temp should be lower, but if I can't make it to the beach by low tide, no use in wearing waders, so like today, I'll just stick with shorts and diver booties. I can handle knee deep with bare legs for a bit, then just walk out, hit the wet for a bit, then back in water, then back out. There's always a way.
