Was able to put together a nice group of finds after a couple hour hunt. It was my first detection at a local church that was built in 1916.
Hardly any trash but was paved with nails. I have been mulling over purchasing an NEL Snake coil for this exact kind of situation. May go ahead and pull the trigger on one I suppose. The detecting was very difficult to say the least but very happy with my finds!

Enjoy!

Congrats on the Merc and other goodies jelly. Nice bunch of finds. I have had pretty good success doing church yards. If you haven't already, try hitting it from different angles. Most likely there is more silver in amongst the nails. Good luck. Mark

I always suspected that church grounds would be a good place to detect. Good finds.

Mark in Michigan
Mark I have hunted 3 of the local churches in the past 2 years and done very well. The one gave up my oldest LC and believe it or not my first "Heads I Win Tails You Loose " token. :?: The Pastor at this particular one was an Md'r and said just show me what I missed. He did miss alot. I gave him one of the LCs I found. Give it a try. Mark

I suspect that there are more good targets in here as well. The ground is just littered with nails so it is going to be tough going. I'm going to order a small coil and hit this spot again and see what kicks up!

How old are the nails ? are they round or square ?
too_
Mostly round, most likely indicating post 1800s, however I was finding some smaller square nails that I suspect were floor board nails. The church only dates back to 1916 but the site itself is older than that. I do believe there is potential to find some older stuff there underneath or between the nails.

From the research I’ve done I think the NEL Snake coil will be very beneficial in this spot and a few other permissions I have.
