I'd had a spot marked on maps as a place to hit for several years but couldnt track down the owner til now.
There used to be a dwelling in the general area but its been gone for 70 or 80 years since I can't see it on any satellite imagery. Anyway, I started combing the stubble and picked up alot of farm and roadside trash for about an hour or more. I wasn't even picking up on tell tale signs of old homesite and was getting pretty frustrated .....after 90 minutes my hand was getting pretty sore and I had way too much trash in my pockets so I started swingin back to the car......I got a surface type quarter signal and thought its probly some recent quarter dropped by the current farmers....loosened up a bit of the surface dirt and and didnt see anything , dug an inch more and suddenly saw a dull silver disk....that and a really rough wheatie was all I could salvage out of that field in 2.5 hours.....the dimes were from a hunt the day before that. And then another Merc the day after .
