I've heard that spiritually, mankind's number is 5, the devil's is 6, and God's number is 7, perfection! Well, I managed to snag 7 silver dimes from a local church yard.
Got the OK from church officials to detect a church in a central Idaho small town, only about 30 people live in town, but they do have a really nice church that serves the surrounding farms and ranches. The original structure was built in 1886, burned down, a new church built, burned down in 1910, and the current church built in the same spot was completed in 1911. Lots of dried grass lawn to check, so no worries about leaving brown spots, though I did bring a couple of gallon jugs of water to put a bit of H2O into each plug I dug.
Could have been a fabulous hunt and full of great finds, but had definitely been detected before. No high tones at all in over 90% of the property, with only the odd nickel signal which I did dig, based on the age of the property. It turned out that one area near the front of the church, on one side of the sidewalk, had not been detected, and it had all the finds. From an area about 30' x 40' I did really well, finding 3 Merc Dimes 1936-1943, 4 Silver Rosies 1947-1951, and about 8 wheat cents back to 1919-S. Other finds included an infamous Washington State tax token, a crucifix pendant, a Virgin Mary pendant, and about 20 or so modern quarters, dimes, nickels, and Memorial cents. I can imagine what was originally lost on church grounds, someone or someones had a ball finding some good stuff. I was surprised, based on the age of the area, that my oldest coin was 1919, no Barbers or Indian Head cents.
No matter, I had a great time detecting, no one bothering me, a wonderful permission from gracious church folks, and some decent finds! And a beautiful setting, quiet, rolling hills with wheat, alfalfa and hay fields, pine trees, and even an elk bugling in the distance. Picture follows, thank you for your interest!
