I’m not locked in 100% that this is a Civil War saber but something just keeps drawing my mind to it.
I ran it through electrolysis to get it better cleaned up for measurements and preservation. Now the measuring is nothing scientific but the dimensions do seem to match what would be the “wrist breaker” model of cavalry saber.
Unfortunately it has suffered many years in the ground of a plowed crop field so obviously it is not its full length. It also is deteriorated enough to not be able to see any stamping or makers marks.
Pictures are pre electrolysis and post electrolysis.
I should note that several civil war ERA artifacts have been recovered from this same site.
A confirmed Confederate Alabama Volunteer Corps button was also found on this site.
I’m curious to hear any opinions on this piece so thanks in advance!
