Came across this .. 11 months of PI gold finds..

Back when I hunted with a friend of mine we had a good run on lots of gold at certain beaches. At the time i was married and had 3 hours to detect including travel time once or twice a week to avoid the nagging or worse. One time she jumped on one of my Excaliburs. :roll:My friend I showed the spots had a field day all the time. We got hit with a storm cycle that tore down the dunes everywhere about the time he moved to the gulf coast. The beaches still haven't ever recovered like the good old days. He thought I was fibbing when I told him our old spots never produced much after he left. It's still there. It's just been buried. If sand moves it isn't open long, don't find the heavies I know is there. One spot I would find heavy gold and for some reason a couple pouches of 8 oz lead sinkers. I haven't found a big sinker there since 2014. People detecting today starting out would never guess what's under their feet that they are walking on that might not appear again in my lifetime. So far this is my worst year ever.
I know what you are talking about on both subjects mentioned here the difference being I don't let nagging or anything else get to me :D ... most of the really good spots I have hunted over the years are still silted or sanded in since Sandy with its 14ft storm surge it brought in a lot of stuff including boulders and large and long planks from sunken sailing vessels...

One of the original water hunters out here in Hawaii was a gentlemen named Dale Rholf. Retired Navy Commander and just one hell of a guy. Unfortunately he passed July 1, 2020. He owned/operated All Island Treasure Detectors out of his garage. He sold me my first DF and then many an Excal over the years. He was one of the first to retrofit underwater housings for land detectors so he could get out into the never detected shallows of Waikiki and various other "heavily trafficked" beaches. Per him it was uncommon to not find less than 10-12 gold rings per hunt back in the late 70's-early 80's. He had pics to back up his claims though unfortunately I never thought to take pics of those pictures. We'd sit around in his garage for hours and "talk story" as they like to say here in Hawaii. He was my mentor and a wise sage. He taught me how to research old water sites which led to a honey hole discovery of my own. One of my finds threads on here was the result of his teachings. He is missed but not forgotten.

Good story Aqua!

And one crazy tale KOB! Love the fact you got Pic"s! Luck was with you that day!!..?

Your right itsaring.. I have one of those once in a life time spots, gone now..blew away! Sand and all moved. Think I've said this before ..if I were to take someone there now, they would think I was lying...

Great that you had a metal detecting mentor like Commander Rholf.

It’s appropriate to pay him homage on this Memorial Day weekend. It takes a special kind of someone just to serve. Much more to give their life in battle. I appreciate his service!

R.I.P. Commander Rholf!

Findmall, I was looking for post from kaptainKomo and came across your name. That side tracked me, I enjoy going thru post from years ago. All the old names, Gulf Hunter, Skully, than those like Eric Fosters and the other great minds from years ago. I even go thru mine sometimes to see if my ideas have changed.

Your hunting style has changed... I used to watch your video's of you hunting the wet sand when you were only digging gold tones with your Blue... you used to move faster than you do today... has nothing to do with age for those reading this... When I hunted with Joe he hunted a lot like me working areas and cleaning them out as not to leave anything for you but a ferrous target :D

Craig you were in the right place at the right time and recognized an opportunity!! Congratulations Champ!!

OBN I just noticed the date you joined the forum was on my 68th birthday!

Remember that spot, PI JOE and I took you and Fsa46 to and that day we found little? Well that is the "right place at the right time spot" you are alluding to... it was a beach in early days that no one was hunting but me then Joe started hunting with me and of course others over the years saw us and joined in... to this day it still gives up gold but its so deep a pulse is the only way to find it..

Its also more than being in the right place at the right time Lew... its knowing what to swing at each area... I waited patiently for you to move from where you were hunting when Frank, Joe, you and myself hunted that beach up the line... I waited until you filled your pouch with ferrous targets and when you left I moved in with my Excal... that was the day I got the 4 gold from that spot...

The good old days...

Dang , Woops there it is , nice video's , Im sure PI Joes has some more , Craig that old gold ? Now - do you need a PI to get to the early 1900s gold again , Were did Boxing 63 go ? , I liked him , next question , is that the same Casper- that hangs on T.net , why doesn't he hang on friendly , talked to him a few times up there , however I didn't know he was part of the CT.- old timers club . Great to see the good old days from the past , OBN needs to share more , since he's slowed down a bit , plenty time to put some 30 ring gold hunts up  Great thread đź‘Ť
