If you can read the writing at the top of the button, it would help give a closer date. I suspect it is British made. If that is the case than it would date between 1790 and 1820. After that we had the technology to make them ourselves. But by around 1840 those type button fell out of favor as the new technology allowed for making buttons out of different materials. Nice find.

Thank you. It says Plaited at the top so not sure if that helps with the dating or not.

Getting exact dates on flat buttons is hard. So many were produced, often without a catalog. Like mentioned above, yours is probably early side of the 1800s; based on the patina, logos, mount type. The logo image should be the Welsh three feathers, if you're trying to dive into antique catalogs.

Thank you. Not often you can find anything pre civil war in Alabama so I had no starting point. And now I’m thrilled just to know it’s era.

no problem. Keep in mind, some of this stuff moved a lot and could lasted in circulation for a good amount of time after its manufacture. hope you find more out that way!

If you really want to pursue this more, then : Get the book "Dating Buttons" by Warren K. Tice.

Charles Jennens button (London England).
Known for including the three-plumes emblem of the Prince of Wales in its button backmarks.
This button dates probably from about 1810 into the 1830s.

Good luck finding that one. If you do, it will cost around $500.

Yes. I bought my two Tice books back when they were still being printed. Imagine my surprise, a few years later, when I learned they were fetching these crazy high prices. I sold my 2 books at a tidy profit :)
