Thank you truly for the response. Found it making a live TikTok video today and never found pre civil war button before.Probably first half of the 19th century. Definitely pre Civil War
Thank you. It says Plaited at the top so not sure if that helps with the dating or not.If you can read the writing at the top of the button, it would help give a closer date. I suspect it is British made. If that is the case than it would date between 1790 and 1820. After that we had the technology to make them ourselves. But by around 1840 those type button fell out of favor as the new technology allowed for making buttons out of different materials. Nice find.
Thank you. Not often you can find anything pre civil war in Alabama so I had no starting point. And now I’m thrilled just to know it’s era.Getting exact dates on flat buttons is hard. So many were produced, often without a catalog. Like mentioned above, yours is probably early side of the 1800s; based on the patina, logos, mount type. The logo image should be the Welsh three feathers, if you're trying to dive into antique catalogs.

Good luck finding that one. If you do, it will cost around $500.
