So here on LongIsland theres plenty of places to bring the Detector and find The Colonial past. The British Occupied most of the coastal towns throughout Island. Doing alittle research a stumbled across a battle that was fought at Sag Harbor. As the story goes our Militia captured a British Fort at The Battle of Sag Harbor. Theres a plaque near where the fort once stood and i found this picture of it. Alot of history here i wonder if there is any places in the vicinity to try and metal detect looks like another place with little to no parking.

I just read where this took place is now a cemetery and I doubt it would look good going to detect that.... Today, the hill that was occupied by the Loyalist garrison and attacked by the Patriots is a local cemetery. 1 shot was fired, what would you expect to find?

I am not interested in detecting the battlefield. The British Military presence in the area shows that there might be some goodies in the area. What could they have lost? During there travels/occupation in the surrounding area. I would try and look around the town and or closer to the shore maybe theres some relics that ended up in the ground waiting to see the light of day!

Coins, buttons, musket balls, same stuff they lost on the CT side of the sound... years ago I found a cannon ball from a bow gun... I don't dirt hunt as much as I beach hunt so most of my finds are sorted by time period... I love finding old buttons they seem to hold up better than the coins do...
