Ok so here's the scoop .. my family has a farm about 10 miles from Shiloh... problem is there really isn't a history tied to the farm (that we know of) and there aren't any known camps until you are closer to Shiloh but we know that troop movements were really close to our farm. Also, about 3 miles away a buddy of mine was leveling his yard with a dozer and came across a US buckle. (Haven't had a chance to hit his yard yet). Is it possible the farm might have some goodies? Where to look? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Try looking around BIG trees if you have some, by the creek if you have one, and if you have any wooded elevated ground, check there too.

A good place to look if there aren't any obvious wartime structures on the property would be any fresh water source most likely a spring. (can't march a bunch of troops around without fresh water) Old springs along known troop routes almost always had a camp. Secondly always search the high ground, any large hill or high point in the area would have made a good look out point.

Hope this helps some.

Find the oldest map you can of the area. Look for roads and trails. If the road going past your property is not paved, check around the edges of it, especially where your driveway meets the road.
