I am reposting now that the picture upload process is streamlined (thank you Admins!) Found this piece recently and it has the advertisement for a bank. It is very fragile and appears to be quite old. The research that I have done has done little to apprise me of a possible date. No local banks have existed in the town since the 1960's and no photographs or maps that I have seen have listed the bank's name. I have found some Sanborn Fire maps that date back to the late 1800s that depict a couple of banks but show no name. If anyone could help or point me in a direction of where to possibly research this piece further I would greatly appreciate it!

The piece reads Farmers and Merchants State Bank --- Cincinnati Iowa

Thanks in advance!

I tried searching newspapers. com for that bank name/town after your first post with no results at all. If there is microfilm of a Cincinatti Iowa newspaper at an area library you might try that, or old city directories.

Thank you for your efforts. The neighboring town has a large library so Im guessing, like you said, that is where I will have to go to find out any information. Fingers crossed!

Good luck on your search. Drives a person nuts when they can't find an answer to something like this. At least I know it drives me bonkers.:rofl2:
