Finally was able to get back out today with Buellride. It has been 7 weeks since my Right total shoulder replacement, and it's tough not being able to swing the coil. I'm sure if my orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist saw what I was doing today they would say I was a poor patient, maybe even crazy. Nonetheless I went out and swung and dug with my left arm and did my best to restrict my use of my right arm. I was slow at best, having to drop the detector, use the shovel, then the pinpointer then the hand to finally retrieve the finds all with one arm, but I had some success. I found mostly clad throughout the day, but nearing the end I got a nice 90+ tone. Popped the plug and started groping around for what I thought was likely another memorial penny masquerading as a high tone silver. Instead, in the roots of the grass I saw a silver edge. At first I thought it was a ring, but when I pulled it out, it was what appeared to be a large silver charm. On close inspection, it seemed to have a name or a Brand Name inscribed on it, and I did find a 925 stamp also. After some research I found out that it is a Memorial or Remembrance Charm that has a space where "cremains" can be placed. The charm itself weighs in at 9.8 grams, so is quite a piece of silver. Couldn't find anyone with the name on it that had passed away in the local area in the past 5-10 years. Maybe they lived somewhere else. Anyway, a successful silver day, and Paul also scored a silver Rosie, so neither one of us was totally skunked. Really looking forward to getting back out on a more regular basis, as long as my left shoulder holds up! Hope everyone has success on their future hunts.

Grats on the find and kudos to your dedication to our hobby! One day when I’m well into my 90s they’re gonna find me, face down, taking a dirt nap with a pinpointer in my hand, gold coin in the other and a smile on my face. Way to stick with it.
Thanks Bottlecap. The hobby is addictive, like pulling the handle on a slot machine. But the number of possible "wins" is limitless. Hard to stay away. If the doctor had his way it would still be a long while before I could actually begin using this arm for much more than a paperweight. Just not my thinking. Good luck to you.

Well well well... nice going Gale! Surprised and happy to see you oooot and abooot there in Western WA! Nice chunk of Sterling, and excellent that you can detect, even though hampered a bit by your surgery, hope more goodies come soon!

Thank you David. It was great to get out, even if hampered by the limitations imposed by the post surgical status. I think Paul might have been laughing to himself a little, watching the comedy act of me going throught all of the gyrations to recover a target. Hope the furnace finally cools down for you over there so you can get out a bit. Looking forward to seeing you again when you get back over this way.

Good for you and nice finds. Way to get after it since the surgery. Not easy but nothing good ever is.

Good to see you back out Gale. Congrats to you and Bull on the shiny score. Oddly enough a hunt or two back I felt the tinge of pain and lock up with the rotater cuff in my right shoulder. Last outing I was swinging lefty for the first two hours then said to heck with it and went back to the right. Back when I used the Etrac it was nothin to change hands just from shoulder fatigue. These days it seems weird. Good luck and a speedy recovery. Mark

Thanks Mark. I'll be glad to get past that 12 week point when I can start using the arm without having to worry about tearing a surgical attachment. I've been swinging lefty for quite a while because of the right shoulder issues, so it'll be weird being able to go back to using my right arm to swing. Going on a bit of a road trip early in October for 4 days or so with Buellride, so will finally get to put it to the test. Don't abuse that rotator cuff. Recovery from that surgery is worse than from a replacement. All said and done, I'll be going back in January to have the left shoulder replaced. Be interesting to see if I set off the TSA detectors with 2 replacements. Good luck to you. Look forward to your future posts.
