Are The New Minelabs Leaking?

With everything you know now about the D2 , would you repeat it all over again and buy another ?
I would still buy one for my area. But it isn't any different than the other detectors for finding small gold. And I doubt XP would cover some damage salt water hunters incur because XP didn't really market this for salt water hunting if you try and read the warranty. Too much to go wrong. I do know all the guys/gals in my area in the detecting clubs all bought Deus ll's. Now they are all swinging Manticores. From what I'm seeing at the beach so far the Manticore isn't performing any better than anything else. I will say people talk about the Deus ll being light. Well mine is not light. With the controls mounted, headphone wire connected, antenna, it's heavier than my Equinox. I've always had coil charging issues. I charge it at night to watch the light blinking off the ceiling. You can't charge the coil without the coil cover being on. I think some of the issue is the coil cover changes temps and make the charging clip pins disengage. In other words the battery warms up the cold coil cover over time. I have 4 charging clips so I know the clip isn't the problem. And also it isn't just my D2 coil. Someone else has the same issue. FWIW the settings I run, the coil dies three times faster than the controls do. I keep a spare coil in the car.

I jumped in the water once and forgot the put the headphone connector back in on my D2. Nothing bad happened to it (yet, and that was 12 months ago).
I did rinse it out with fresh water after.

I don't think any of these companies actually ask dedicated water hunters what they want in a machine. My ideal water hunting machine is completely sealed. The D2 is close with it' wireless antenna, and then they screw it up with letting the antenna leak and putting a bunky little connector on it for charging.
If you're listening XP, it's called induction charging and it's been used in electric tooth brushes for decades. Hell use the Qi standard my phone uses and you could save on shipping a cable and charger.
And why make the coil wireless and water capable with an antenna and then drop that idea for the headphones? Bluetooth would work fine with the same arrangement and then everything would be sealed.
I have repaired a couple D2's. If you see green try some electronics spray. Then a light coat of Dow Corning Molykote 111. Hoping one of these days they also perfect the Graphene battery technology. Detector would run longer and you could charge it in 5 minutes.

Quite the hands-on review from a seasoned , trusted beach hunter. Everything you mention is what I suspected could happen and is the reason I didn't purchase one. Except 2 things caught me off guard. The factory weight being heavier than a Nox. This was supposed to be the lightest out there. And I'm not talking about a control pod hanging around your neck. #2- The battery drainage on the coil before everything else renders the detector useless. Totally unacceptable.

I do not have charging issues, but the coil cannot be bumped once the charge clip is on, or it might stop charging. My beach detector time has never been an issue. I can do two 4 hour hunts before charging in needed.

The d2 gets a lot of well deserved hate at times, but I've found a lot of gold with it so it's hard to stay mad at it

Been using the D2 most the time. The gold chain I dug the other day I was hunting behind a Nox and manticore user who missed it one way or the other. If I had switched back to my CTX or Nox being rusty I may have missed it as well. But barely hearing the chain in the wet sand at two inches deep makes me think I wouldn't have heard it when I submerged the coil in water. Used to love digging small gold with the Nox in the shell beds. I just know the D2 isn't any better and may be worse in that department.

I should note I run my own custom made Nox shaft. Plus if I want I can ditch the coil cover on the Nox coil. Ain't happening with a D2 coil. Never run coil covers on my CTX coils. Really helps the 17" coil going bare bottom.

The Deus ll is lighter if you use the puck. Mines been sitting on the table. I hate the puck. It's a PITA. Is good for using with the wireless headphones so they connect though. At least until they don't connect.

I would not celebrate too much about the D2 being superior. By the time the Manticore arrived at my location I had found 5 gold neck/wrist chains between the Equinox and Deus2.

In wet sand testing the Manticore beat the Deus 2 on EVERY gold chain. Deus 2 in Beach Sens, and Manticore in Low Conductors.

Even old CB had to admit the manti was better on gold chains. His own testing showed it.
The question is, can XP answer the challenge.
