I was out starting an excavation at a dump in an area where I found quite a few embossed milk bottles (as the yards are too dry to metal detect). I really only got down to the level where I think I'll start finding decent stuff before I ended the dig. Shoulder still not right post-surgery. But the hole is started for the next time I go back for piles of milk bottles and jars of marbles.

Only things I brought home were a few marbles, a shoe polish bottle, and a brick. It's the first "shooter" marble I've ever found digging.

I always keep bricks with writing on them and they are slowly surrounding my front yard garden bed.

Anybody collect bricks? I can't say I'm a brick collector as I just bring them home and throw them in the yard... And can anybody ID this one? COLL-B CO.?? Not finding anything on it.

Nice finds. You never know what you will find. Years ago a good friend of mine was digging in a dump we used to shoot rats at and found a wooden box with one of these inside.

I have brought home a few through the years, but I don't consider myself a brick collector...yet. It IS addictive though. I see people are selling 'em on that big auction site online.

Glad somebody else is silly enough to lug those heavy things outta the woods! got a couple of those Metropolitan pavers you have…found em in a creek. I believe they were the original main
street pavers in the town I found em in

I see a W.W. Co. brick in your collection... I found a bunch just like that at a West Virginia farmhouse I detected at a few months ago. Google says they are firebricks manufactured in Ohio. Of course I was too lazy to carry any out with me!

Yet another interesting side-quest in our hobby...

I'm a few bricks short of a full load! On the other hand, I do have some nice Montana and Idaho marked bricks.

On a recent creek adventure, I found a fairly substantial quantity of "Metropolitan Blocks" that appear as if they were related to some early cast iron waterline work? Similar to the 4th one up in the center row of the picture. I am going to bring some home and lightly clean them. Thinking about putting in a brick patio...they would be nice accent pieces!

If I ever found a cool complete brick like those I'd start bringing them home for sure. I've been tempted at times to pick up brick chunks from lakes around me when I spot them - thinking they had to be some older building component. But I stop myself. Those bricks are sweet!

Are they anywhere an old downtown area? I also found a bunch of Metropolitan in a creek and figured they were dumped there when the downtown was being paved. They are twice the thickness of regular brick, and from what I've read those are street pavers....

For example:

The area I found them is about 10 miles from the City of Buffalo but close to several smaller towns that back in the day were more the center of activity until easier and faster modes of transportaion were available. There is an old mill and dam only a couple hundred yards away...maybe related to that? I will look through some old nearby town photos and see if I can spot any. Thanks for link!

I have a lot of Metropolitan bricks that I found piled on the edge of my property from the farmhouse up on the hill built 100 years ago. I used them to line my bonfire pit and also use them in my rock garden. They still looked new

That looks like a nice spot to dig.
Yes, I bring home interesting bricks too.
