Could be from the turret of the battleship Maine when it blew up… or maybe not

I don’t think it is from a cap gun as the construction seems to heavy for a toy.

So little to work with, I have no idea. Not enough there for me to pin down on what it came from. What kind of area did you find it in?

A small piece of something. As time passes by, you will find many broken pieces which cannot be identified and that is frustraiting. But it is part of the hobby.

I've fired several muzzle-loaders over the years, with different sized caps. I've never seen anything like that in person, or in reference materials. While not an expert on this subject, I am pretty confident that percussion cap can be ruled out.

Could it be a piece from an old mechanical toy (like those old stamped-tin clockwork toys)? Such a mystery.

All I see is tiny metal pants..... best of luck trying to ID it. There's not a lot to work with there. Might be one for the scrap bin and hopefully find something easier to ID on the next one!
