Another one bites the dust, RIP MD-Hunter Blog

Damn, I was just on MD-Hunter Blog last night. Went back on just now, refreshed to see if there were any new stories and saw this.

With all the increased competition we all seem to be facing, at least on the beaches, it’s a wonder we’re losing these types of detecting sites. There seems to be more people into detecting than I’ve ever seen in the last 56 years, so scratching my head why we continue to lose good websites.

You are more correct than you know! It so simple to film, edit, and post a video in which you say whatever you want (correct or factual or not) to make yourself look like a Metal Detecting Legend and turn off comments like someone we all know... CD... than to do a substantive blog with interesting and factual material (which the author has to pay to have hosted, unlike YT) and then put up with all the haters... that's why I stopped posting mine, but I left mine up because there's still some good info for beginners. I had such a hard time getting into the hobby until Buster help me get started that I figured I'd do the blog for beginners.

You are more correct than you know! It so simple to film, edit, and post a video in which you say whatever you want (correct or factual or not) to make yourself look like a Metal Detecting Legend and turn off comments like someone we all know... CD... than to do a substantive blog with interesting and factual material (which the author has to pay to have hosted, unlike YT) and then put up with all the haters... that's why I stopped posting mine, but I left mine up because there's still some good info for beginners. I had such a hard time getting into the hobby until Buster help me get started that I figured I'd do the blog for beginners.

Another guy on another forum replied to me saying that MD-Hunter was a Ukrainian website, so is hoping the owner is OK. I didn't know they were based in Ukraine so that might be a reason with all the turmoil going on over there. Glad you kept yours up Robby. I now know what you mean by catching hate.

Good Lord, I was down at the beaches just before Hurricane Erin arrived. I always forget I have a video camera in my cell phone, but this time I remembered and filmed a few very short videos showing the incoming storm. I didn't know what I was going to do with them, didn't have a place to post them, but when I was on my YouTube account, I discovered that I had a channel I had set up 11 years ago for some reason but never used. So, I changed the name to be more in line with detecting and posted those few videos so I could have a link to share.

Then I started catching crap about wanting to be a YouTube "star", that type of nonsense. Man, I'm 68, and running a YouTube channel takes a lot of work, i.e., constant filming, editing, posting, etc. I have no desire to spend my days filming and uploading YouTube videos or becoming a YouTube "guru", I just wanted to be able to have a place to upload a few videos, lol.

Thanks for the kind words... I keep thinking I might get back to blogging (I'm 69 and retired in 2020) but I just didn't generate the kind of response (or any for that matter) I was hoping for so I figured I was speaking to an empty room. I have a channel, and don't do the videos that are of the quality of these young pups that are "influencers" but I try to show my finds, pass on what knowledge I've gained over the years and 9 detectors I've had (I'm a Veteran and a veteran detectorist but I'll never claim to be and Expert). You're most welcome, sorry your blog didn't get much traction. Maybe it's a generational thing, I guess guys at our age who have been detecting a long time just come from a generation where we had to read to learn anything, lol. I actually prefer having either menus or topics I can select to zero in on the category of info I'm interested in reading about. On YouTube, I gotta do a search and wade through a bunch of junk to try to find what I'm looking for. Same on FB, gotta scroll through post after post.

No worries about the haters, I'm well past the age of "peer pressure" and/or giving a sh*t what others say, lol. Strangely enough, the crap didn't come from YouTube comments on my videos, it was mainly coming from brothers on the forums, lol.

Here's mine, it's only the 4 short off the cuff videos I shot as Hurricane Erin was approaching. But at least now I have a place I can post any video's I make in the future, but they're not gonna be high-production type videos like the influencers shoot, just probably off the cuff video's I shoot with my cell phone if I happen to see something interesting. https://www.youtube.com/@diggingdabeeps

Hmmm, maybe all is not lost with MD-Hunter after all. At the bottom of their R.I.P. announcement is this:

Respect for NOKTA MAKRO Україна
(I unlinked this just in case, so it would conform with any forum rules about linking to other sites).

I didn't know what that meant so I clicked on that link and another Ukrainian site popped up, looks much bigger and more professional than MD-Hunter. A little translate window popped up so I was able to translate the site into English. BUT I noticed when I clicked the “News” tab at the top, there were the blog posts I had been reading on MD-Hunter’s blog.

So maybe MD-Hunter changed and moved to a bigger platform, or maybe this site picked up MD-Hunters blog posts and integrated them into their site. They're both apparently Ukrainian so maybe all is not lost after all.
