Another Headphone Question

Looking to buy a set of waterproof headphones for my Manticore. I understand that Mr. Eisenhower makes a great product.... or so I've read. Also heard great things about Aqua-Tek Blue (made by Frank Lopergolo?).... and sold out everywhere I look. And then there's the Thresher headphones (made by Tony??). Supposedly Franks headphones use a better speaker (cone vs buzzer?). Wow! With all that said, I'm looking for comfort and good quality audio.... and I believe my ML-105's have both, but, needless to say, not waterproof. Oh yeah, I forgot about the Killer B's.... made by?? Any and all advice is much appreciated!

I am surprised none of these small headphone builders don't offer Bluetooth waterproof headphones based on customer supplied ML-85/105's. I appreciated Bluetooth would not work underwater, but I think lots of folks would like fully waterproof headphones for wading ect...

Hi Pete from UK - Thank you for the feedback! Yes, I would love a waterproof (actually, rainproof) BT headphone..... but, seems I'll have to settle for wired models for the time being. Putting that aside, I'm really just trying to sort through the aforementioned aftermarket offerings.... or more to the point, I'm looking for feedback (and maybe clarification) on those offerings.... so I can make an informed decision :-)

Frank uses these, I repaired a set of his and was surprised at the poor workmanship. As far as I know he no longer makes them and stories of taking orders (directly from him) and not sending the product with no refunds. Did that to my friend Dennis.

Me. I would suggest Tony's. His seem to be the ones I see the most used where I hunt and seems everyone is Happy. He does have a upgraded set which uses a 60mm piezo which I do suggest is a better set.

I made a few sets using the same speakers/piezo's and the audio is loud and I'm not sure how it would work on a Manticore. I was told they work better on the D2? I know on my two machines Excalibur and AQ PI they are Ok. I just made a set for a friend with the AQ, lets see how he replies. The good thing about the frank speakers they are 100% water proof and great for diving..IF you seal the outside connections with a good epoxy.. and not Hot Glue like Frank did...

Just curious, but what's wrong with using hot glue as a waterproofer? With regards your preference for resin, just wondering what type you used?

I've seen so many hot glue jobs that were not totally sealed and for sure just like the picture above your going to have problems. I remember when I got the first couple sets of Gray Ghost Amphibians for testing. I threw them into the swimming pool over night and tested them the next day. They failed because they Chinese who made them where pumping them out and not really taking the time to do a quality job. Funny when I called and told Detector Pro they had failed the Chinese's told them its because they flew them over to the USA in a unpressurized area on the aircraft....lol

I started using 2 part epoxies several years ago, I even take a small paint brush and try and paint everything with a fast dry, then I will use a slow dry epoxy to fill. The epoxy will seek out all crevices, nooks and total seal for flows.

Something else some over look when it comes to sealing, is making sure the surface is clean. I tested a set of head phones for Fisher years ago. I caught a leak around the piezos on several sets they sent, come to find out I noticed the company that made the shells for the head sets use a release agent for the ear cups.. whom ever made the head phones never wiped or clean the residue off, so everything that was applied, which was a silicon sealent, could not get a grip..so they leaked.

Thanks for that, most appreciated! I find it very annoying that MLs basic Bluetooth headphones are not even remotely waterproof. I don't expect them to be rated to 10m (for obvious reasons!) but they should be able to survive heavy rain and the odd accidental dunking down to say 1.5m....

Here is something I used years ago when I was making water proof speaker, it was just part of what I did to make a set of speakers I could use under water. I think it would help when it rained for the speakers, not sure about the rest.

I have searched and searched for a headphone cover such as this fake (AI-generated) one shown here. I plan on buying a pair of Tony's wonderful headphones, however, for the detecting that I do, a cover/protector such as this one would do the trick for me.
