Adze or not?

Recovered from a homesite that was on the 1873 map but gone by 1890. Field has been used for farming since. This looks like an adze but the square hole doesn’t look right. Could it be from some old farm machinery? Clearly has a cutting edge and shape of an adze. Was suggested that it was hand forged and the square hole was to keep the head from rotating on the handle while keeping the forging process simple.

IMO it has too much curve to be a standard adze. But could be a bowl or cupping adze/gouge.

I'm far from an expert, but weren't Adze's made of copper? I'm thinking it's a type of scalping tool, but definitely not confident. Interesting find!

I've never seen one out of copper. It wouldn't hold up to hewing wooden beams.
Oh OK, I'm thinking of a completely different relic. I was referring to native American artifacts, which clearly this is not  now that I Google it, I might even have the wrong name. Thought I've seen a few posts here of native copper adzes in the past...
