I live in north GA. and a guy here at work told me when I get my detector he'll take me up to his parents house around Chickamauga National Battlefield. He said they live next to it.He said his dad found some type of belt buckle from the civil war plowin up a garden. They got about 6 or 7 acres. That might be a good place to go.

Also,I have uncles around Cordele GA. that has farm land, including where they were at,as in born in the house,so the place is pretty old.Thought of goin around the old homestead and in some of the plowed up fields when I go for Christmas.

But is it worth it?

If anything of value was there, would it be too deep to find?
Its been farmed for at least 60-100 years, depending on the field.

My cousin has found lots of indian artifacts in some of those fields too, arrowheads, stone knives and axe heads and stuff.

go for it. You'll never know what will turn up. If I had the opportunity to do that kind of hunting and didn't, I'd be wondering the rest of my life.

yes farm land is great place. plows turn the soil over year after year bringing coins / relics closer to the surface while deepening others so it is difacult to realy "hunt out" active farm land i have found many thing pre dating the civil war on farm land that had not been plowed in over 50 years.
