I had hunted on Thursday and found 2 silver rings, a silver earring and a crappie knock off brand cellphone (“Honor” brand ). I really had no intention of heading out again on Friday. Yesterday, the sky was gorgeous, and I had the wife working out of the home to take care of the sick granddaughter, which I had already done grandpa duty on 2 other days, so it was a no-brainer to get out of the house again with Merlin. I arrived to beautiful blue skies and a flat surf. This time I worked in the opposite direction. I found a small area that was giving up greenies. It is here, at about the 2 hour mark, that I got my second silver-colored ring. However, I think it may have been white gold – but I wasn’t sure since I couldn't make out the inside markings. (I mention this for later…). I was really enjoying this hunt. At about the 4 hour mark, I was facing the sun when I looked down and saw something glimmering on a twiggy looking thing. I ran the Excal’s coil over it and it made no response. I then scooped it up and :dingding:. I could not believe it! How that happened is beyond me. I then put the coral thingy back in the water and ran over the scoop again. I was now sure it was going to be gold due to the lack of response. If it were silver or another crap metal it would’ve sounded off.

After 5 hours, I was done and headed back to my truck. I took off the carabiner to examine the 2 rings I had placed on it. One problem though. The second ring that I thought may have been white gold was missing. I searched everywhere in my parking area and inside my truck. I don’t know if I lost it there, or possibly earlier in my hunt, when I took it off the carabiner to try and read the marking, and then maybe did not secure it correctly. Although it should’ve been a silver designed ring, I had a feeling it may have been gold. Needless to say, I was very perturbed at this. :( I did notice the “10K” marking on the chain so at least that was good. By the way, I tested the Nox at home on the chain and it also didn’t pick it up. I was happy to add another gold to the totals and can’t wait for the end of these King Tides.

Must have been a tourist losing that chain where you hunt... most wear 14 to 18k .

Wife back home nice and cranky... I knew I missed something but couldn't put my finger on it lol... I felt like dropping her back off at hospital

OMG are you for real? Do you realize most gold chains have spring steel in the clasp? Only way to check if its real is test it... Its understandable though Earl as you are just a curator so we get it ok?

Magnet test _= What Boss The chain in question I found the magnet drew on the chain link , not the clasp , the clasp was marked 18k

It seems we are getting more of those weird things that make no response on our detectors. In my end of September post I complained about a silver bracelet that did not register on my DF. No groundbreaking explanations were suggested. Alas. I am still puzzled.

Skunk Master , gold plate still beats a 3 day silver hunt , thanks for cleaning the junk off my beaches , thata boy :chaplin::lol:
Gold plated doesn't count. You can put lipstick on a pig, but you still have a pig, so no gold for you = SKUNK.

And get it straight, for the 2nd or 3rd time, it wasn't a 3-day hunt, pay attention, it was 2 days when I was sick, a total of 5 hours spent detecting. 3 hours 1st beach, 2 hours second beach. And solid 925 beats plated junk metal. Your gold plated might have looked good, but it's still a junker.

Yeah, I'd be puzzled as well. Silver is a metal, and the DF is all metal, so it should have picked it up. How high did you have your pulse timing set? And gain?

Nice finds, losing a ring out of a mesh bag is what drove me to attach a carbiner to my detector for rings, nearly impossible to lose. Thin chains can be dicey with any detector, especially if they are laid out flat rather than bunched up.
