Hit a couple tot lots and then had the notion to hit some dirt. Was a nice variety, but that dirt recovery just takes it out of me. Where else can you come home with a 45-70 from the 1870s and a nice silver/opal ring than in Kansas? The ring is marked 925, and has a nice opal stone and fake diamond all around. A nice look piece, and looks like it might have a little age. Anyway, Ring #8 for the year.

Dodge City has a population of 28,000 so fairly small. A town, not a city. I do have some advantages in we have a large immigrant population. We have two beef packing plants. Our migrants tend to wear a lot of jewelry. I think it is because they make more money than the average person would, and that they like to show it off. Some of the gold I have seen around the necks I would be afraid to wear in public. I see gold bracelets on infants.

Having a large migrant population we also have a lot of schools. Over the last 20 years or so I have learned to see the pattern the kids use going from one tot lot, to the other areas. This is where I find a lot of my jewelry. Knowing where to look just outside a tot lot can be good as well. Kind of like how knowing which sideline players & spectators tend to lay their good down at. I just increase my odds by spending what time I have looking in the right places. Knowing where to hunt is 75% of my success, That is why I was asked to be in this book years ago.
