2 gold rings yesterday

Don't you have a Nox ? Did you not get comfortable with it or what ? I can understand though because I still like my old PI.

One of these days your gonna go to your beach spots and see 10 guys all swinging away....for 5 days straight.
Most my spots this time of year are real small pockets. Wish we had long stretches all winter.

Got out with some buddies yesterday, hoping that mother nature would be "doing her thing" on our beaches. Unfortunately the swell had seriously subsided by the time of the high tide yesterday morning (nor was it an especially high tide in the first place). But we held out hope that perhaps some erosion had gone on.

1st stop: A few silver coins and wheaties showed up between us . My buddy got a toasted walker half and silver washington. I got a 14k ring with diamond chip. But pickens were slim , so we went on to scout a couple of other beaches instead. No staggering results at any of them. But I ended the day with 49 coins (inc. a 1935 buffalo & a few wheaties). 2 gold rings (both dainty ladies rings, with no notable stones). 1964 dog license (I always enjoy getting old dog tags).

And in-lieu of some recent posts here, I am not at liberty to say where we went. Lest, heaven forbid, my home be targeted for a robbery. Or lest, heaven forbid, someone else went to the same beach @ the next erosion episode, and found something .
Nice finds! Definetly don’t want to give out you sites seeing more people than ever detecting these days in fl

So...The truth comes out. Don't let your No.Cal turn into a So.Cal. Before you know it , there will be a flood of Youtubers up there. There's already one , MMM.
Just read the posts and everything comes to light. “I… I… I…”, “Me… Me… Me…”. Constantly seeking attention. Downplaying the negative. Whistling past the graveyard.

And that is why our honey holes are advertised on the internet. Every time there’s a POTENTIAL event… ‘Hey everyone! There’s a tide surge! Go to these beaches!’

Today, there doesn’t even need to be an event. People from hours away are scouting those beaches almost daily. It has literally ruined detecting at some spots. And I am partially to blame because I sought his help ten years ago and clued him in. Some of the senior hunters in our area were not very happy with me!

It’s not just me, and it’s not just our county, and it’s not just once. There’s a reputation that goes back way before I started. I learned the hard way. Never again!

I just don't know how to react to all of this. I've gotten help from a lot of people and have had a lot of wisdom shared with
me.

First of all everything that is found MDing on the beach is something that was lost by another person (with the exception
of the places where you can find naturally occurring nuggets of detectable valuable minerals). By the very nature of the
activity a relic or artifact hunter (coin hunter, jewelry shooter, etc) is benefiting from another's loss. This isn't necessarily
a bad thing. The MDer is finding things which may otherwise be lost forever.

Regarding sharing knowledge of conditions, locations, equipment, or anything else...

I'm DEEPLY appreciative to everyone who has taken the time to share their wisdom and hard earned experience with me!
I say it now, THANK YOU! I may not be able to rush out when conditions are ideal, but I appreciate that maybe,
just maybe, I can possibly know what to look for.

For people who have told me about places to go detect, KNOWING that by going there I may find something that will no
longer be there for them to find when they return to the spot, THANK YOU. I appreciate that you were willing to share
information so that I could potentially go out and have a nice story to tell about my MDing adventure and maybe a little
bit of shiny in my pocket.

For people who have taken the time to write patient explanations on how to set up or use my equipment, THANK YOU.
Your patience and sharing has made my time hunting both more enjoyable and enabled me to find things that I may have
missed before.

For anyone who has invited me to their permission or further taken the time to show me how to detect, THANK YOU. You
have given me tools that I can use to find even more places to look for that which has been lost on my own.

I'm not going to share the location of my house or my license plate. That's just common sense, but I've actually spent quite
a bit of time considering whether or not to reveal the random places I have detected (that generally I found because they are
1. nearby, or 2. have free/cheap parking, and 3. won't result in a ticket or citation) which truthfully I know from either personally
having visited experience or that I located and chose to visit almost at random from looking at google earth or google maps,
and I don't see the point. It's very different to reveal a secret location that required research, effort, and in many cases
permission to detect, than it is to disclose that you were at a massively trafficed hugely popular publicly accessible beach.

In the end, I can confidently say that I value comraderie and community over a few additional (maybe) silver coins in my scoop.

I'd also like to chime in and throw my support for the senior hunters who have shared their abundance of knowledge with me! Thank you! Without your help and guidance, it would have been more difficult (but not impossible) to learn the subtle nuances of beach detecting. Hail to the community of metal detectorists! May we all find what we are looking for! Keep swinging!

A few things I will repeat again. I may think I'm all that , but in reality it's still treasure hunting. There is always someone better , luckier , etc. I know I've helped some here and they've helped me , so thank you all. A few I've become good friends with and we've hunted and shared tips , locations , etc.

For decades , except the 1st few years I've been a solo hunter , learning much on my own through trial and much more error. Hunted a bit in the 70s , then gangbusters around 1982....25 years later around 2007 when the recession hit and gold was something like 900 oz , I noticed a big development. Every unemployed guy under 35 years old seemed to be searching for gold on the beach. In numbers I've never seen before. Finding spots became much easier than just local knowledge and a Thomas Guide , which is how I found my "secret spots." Fast-forward around 2018 with the Nox , and everybody was an expert. It was really around then I started joining groups , hunting with others and trying to meet new friends. Because by then , I knew for sure the glory days were over. No more hunting 3 weeks straight without seeing a soul.

Have I been burned ? You bet. Have I met some good friends and learned a few new things ? Yup. Do I wine and complain , have some regrets , divulge too much info ? Damn straight. But people are gonna do what they're gonna do. And if I had to do it all over again , would I do it the same ? Absolutely ! Because when I'm gone , I'd like people to think "That KOB guy wasn't to bad after all and I learned a bit from him."

I would hope you all could keep one thing in mind. We are first and foremost friends. We all share the same likes and dislikes. We increase our skills by learning from one another. I don't know much, but I'm more than willing to share what knowledge I do have. And with that places I hunt. They're not a secret. I have seen hundreds of other people hunting where I go. Unless it is private property, they have just as many rights to be there as I have. Detecting has a skill set. The more you learn, the better you will become with locating treasure, and pinpoint the spots that may produce the good finds that others have missed. We are a family, and like all families there are times of bickering. Ask yourself, is it worth holding a grudge and be alone. Or let it go and enjoy the hobby with those you call friend.

I've met a few A holes with metal detectors. Not many. But the few I have met I never forgot about them. They were never what you call the friendly type. And still aren't. I think they put their bed against a wall so they wake up on the wrong side of the bed every morning? Even detecting clubs have some beef among members. I've ran across club members trying to work out their beef on the beach on more than one occasion. Was pretty entertaining.

WOW Tom! What a change of heart!

You have been posting that beach on the Internet for the last 10 years despite several of us who actually live here asking you not to. Now, after every storm event, we see three or four people from out of town scouting it. And when it’s hitting, there are another three, four, or more (15 in 2014)!

Very considerate and respectful of you not to name that beach… AGAIN!
Out of towner here....live about an hour and a half away.. sorry to to go and find stuff on YOUR beaches...heres one for Ra1der5...

2 rings is a good find! I found a gold chain on the beach a few days ago. Yeah, sometimes I get lucky :)

Hi everyone, this is my first post.
