Was detecting a site I have been to several times before without much luck Just 2 flat buttons in about an hour. I decided to leave the hay field and try an area I hadn't before as it is so overgrown with thorns and wild rose. I was ducking under and pulling my way thru the thorns and detecting the few spots I could swing the coil.
I found the shed antler in the brush and did manage to get the coil over this decent coin.
Surprisingly no ticks but I did have 8 scratches on my legs that drew blood.

The blood was worth it right? Way to get after those beauties. Still hoping for my first. You east coast guys get the best stuff!

My brother!. I have been recently hunting long lost forgotten colonial plowed farm sites deep in the woods. I have pulled both thorns and ticks off me and my legs are torn up and all I have found in 3 new to me sites were flat buttons, shotgun casing, pistol and rifle brass, and a few buckles, one a complete very early buckle but no coins. Not one. I found more ticks than non-iron targets.

Nice job, finding a large cent or any old coin in the forest is a challenge because where you can sweep is severely limited by vines, branches, trees, logs, rocks, etc. I have been sweeping maybe 40% of the land as I go because of all the obstacles.

Definitely sounds like you've hunted areas like I sometimes do. I have struck out on several of the sites that are grown over but I also have found coins at several spots. I know what you mean about only getting to sweep 40% , sometimes its less than that. But I try the spots anyways thinking not many others want to deal with it so I think there is a good chance stuff is still there. Good luck and keep trying.
