Well Maple Sugaring season is over for me so was able to get out metal detecting again. I made about seven gallons of syrup on my home made evaporator and included a picture of it.
Went with a hunting buddy to an old fairground 1890 to 1920 I believe. It is now a huge cornfield.
It has been hunted before so I didn't expect much. I headed out across the field and within 20 minutes found a very nice 1903 H Canadian Dime. For the next 3 hours I received very few good signals digging a few pieces of trash and an 1893 IHP. The next hour brought a 1900 IHP and a tired arm. I was probably about 20 minutes from calling it a day when I hit a great signal. Out pops a 1944 Merc. Rejuvenated I kept detecting. Then several minutes later a 1905S Barber, 5 minutes later a 1930 Buff. So I worked that small section over well and as I thought I was about done I hit another jumpy signal. I was about to skip it as several previous similar signals were pieces of pipe. Glad I didn't. 8 inches down I saw a large shiny disc. I was shocked to find the 2 Reale. It is worn on the face but by shining a pen light and tipping it I can make out the 1788. I came home and researched the mint mark and assayer's initials to find out it was made in Lima Peru. Even know the assayers names. So cool.
Thanks for looking and good luck out there. I'm headed back down to the cornfield this afternoon.
