Well Maple Sugaring season is over for me so was able to get out metal detecting again. I made about seven gallons of syrup on my home made evaporator and included a picture of it.
Went with a hunting buddy to an old fairground 1890 to 1920 I believe. It is now a huge cornfield.
It has been hunted before so I didn't expect much. I headed out across the field and within 20 minutes found a very nice 1903 H Canadian Dime. For the next 3 hours I received very few good signals digging a few pieces of trash and an 1893 IHP. The next hour brought a 1900 IHP and a tired arm. I was probably about 20 minutes from calling it a day when I hit a great signal. Out pops a 1944 Merc. Rejuvenated I kept detecting. Then several minutes later a 1905S Barber, 5 minutes later a 1930 Buff. So I worked that small section over well and as I thought I was about done I hit another jumpy signal. I was about to skip it as several previous similar signals were pieces of pipe. Glad I didn't. 8 inches down I saw a large shiny disc. I was shocked to find the 2 Reale. It is worn on the face but by shining a pen light and tipping it I can make out the 1788. I came home and researched the mint mark and assayer's initials to find out it was made in Lima Peru. Even know the assayers names. So cool.
Thanks for looking and good luck out there. I'm headed back down to the cornfield this afternoon. :chaplin:

So typical of east coast hunters. He goes to a fairgrounds that has usage dates of 1890 to 1920. But does he find coins from 1890 to 1920 ? NNNNEEEOOoooohhhh. He finds a frickin' 1788 reale :iwish:

Charlie that is a dream hunt right there. Congrats on the dime trifecta, the old Spanish silver, Buffs, Ihps and all the rest. It doesn't get much better. Well done. Mark

I don't know if I'm more in love with that Reale or the thoughts of fresh maple syrup! Both are amazing to me, but that is quite a hunt there, what a dream find on the reale, congrats!

Fantastic hunting, Charlie! Even without the Reale, that’s an outstanding day! The Reale just puts it over the top!! Cool that you were able to discover so much information about the coin. I’m still hoping to get into the 1700s - maybe one of these days!

Thanks Ben. It was a nice surprise.

:cool3:There is a house on the property that dates to the early 1800s and several large cents were previously found near it by other hunters. It was very unexpected Tom but I guess I'll take it. :chaplin:
