Im thinking maybe its time to get another detector for in the water maybe a Manticore, Equinox 900/700 or legend. Has anyone heard anything about the new Minelabs and there build quality. I had a lot of issues with leaks with my Equinox 600 which is why I bought the excal so Im a little cautious about buying another before I get some good reports. Thanks guys.

I never had an issue with my Nox 800 and I was one of the earlier ones. The only thing I've seen recently on here is a coil breaking on the MantiI got my 600
I was one of the un lucky ones that had a problem with leaks, my buddy was like you and never had his leak. I loved everything else about the Equinox, so if the new model is more waterproof I am definitely on board.

I can tell you a Deus ll in salt water you need to be a clean freak. Spray it down good with fresh water. Let it dry off before charging. Make sure it's dry around the plug. If you have more than one Deus ll, only use the charging cord on the one it came with. Do NOT use one charging cable to charge multiple deus ll's. If you get a hint of salt on the connector you can mess them all up. Check the connector with a magnifying glass for green at least once a week. If the plug on the controls slaps any water in the connection hole spray it out quick with electronics cleaner. In other words, a lazy beach hunter should stay away from a deus ll. I spray mine off before I leave the beach and again when I get home. Then I blow it off with a leaf blower.

You made me scared to use my CZ21. So I sold that one. Lol!
I had more issues in the time that I had my CZ than ALL the other detectors that I've ever owned combined. The 9V's and opening that battery compartment sealed by a large gasket is such poor design. There's a reason I haven't seen one out in the wild in years. Fisher was also VERY exorbitant in its charges.

I wouldn't put any $1600, "barely even released" and available machine, under water. There is no sample rate, and it would suck to kill one being it is tough even buying one. Now, I have never put any metal detector under water intentionally ever. I have an arsenal built over the years and not a single one died from leaks of any kind. Some have had quick dunks, hard rains, sensible and normal usage for me. jm2c.

Yeah I had to buy a battery door and the gasket separate. Wanted to make sure it wasn't an instant disaster to the person I sold it to. The door was cracking leaning in a corner:roll: I schooled the guy who got it about the CZ21.

Mine works great. Haven't used it in 3 years, but I air tested it the other day and the newer batteries I had left in there brought it to life just fine. I don't suppose you want to buy it, huh?

Well you can count me as "one" sample rate that has had no leak problems so far. The way I hunt, it get's dunked every hunt. Gotta trust your tool if you want to hunt chest deep, or it's useless to me. If it does leak, I have the warranty...but so far so good.

My Minelab Equinox 900, Nokta Legend and XP Deus 2 have not leaked so far. Like others I have not heard of any issues with leaking yet. By this time (6 months) there were plenty of Equinox 600 and 800 leaking reports after it was released. Fingers definitely crossed.

That's good news, those all look like great detectors. I know a guy who has used the Legend for about a year now in the water and has had no issues. I just miss using my Equinox so am leaning toward a 900 or Manticore but we will see....hard to beat the price of the Legend.

yes exactly I need a machine I can trust not to leak.

With everything you know now about the D2 , would you repeat it all over again and buy another ?

I jumped in the water once and forgot the put the headphone connector back in on my D2. Nothing bad happened to it (yet, and that was 12 months ago).
I did rinse it out with fresh water after.

I don't think any of these companies actually ask dedicated water hunters what they want in a machine. My ideal water hunting machine is completely sealed. The D2 is close with it' wireless antenna, and then they screw it up with letting the antenna leak and putting a bunky little connector on it for charging.
If you're listening XP, it's called induction charging and it's been used in electric tooth brushes for decades. Hell use the Qi standard my phone uses and you could save on shipping a cable and charger.
And why make the coil wireless and water capable with an antenna and then drop that idea for the headphones? Bluetooth would work fine with the same arrangement and then everything would be sealed.
