Going thru old post from the past, from another forum, where several of us once shared our finds, and idea's. I've heard Craig speak of the past but never seen a picture of...

Epic old finds there. Wonder if you still have that stuff. That sailboat pendant is unusual , looks silver.

Wish the old days would return , miss the silver found under the school bleachers , now covered in with concrete , the good old days , Im sure Craig kept some pictures , wonder if his pictures reveal shoreline changes over the years , as old silver is up there

Great collection of shinys. Ah I miss those good old days. When I first started hunting tot lots that were virgin territory it was amazing, to say the least. Here is a picture of the gold only I found in the first 3 months of hunting tot lots.

Omg. You got all that from tot lots ? That must have been when they only used sand. Now I see they use wood chips/bark. And more are converting to foam rubber mats.

That's a Great haul for the land. I started detecting land around 06/07 .. Never found any gold and just a few silvers. I'm not sure if they were picked clean or I sucked at hunting the land. I'm thinking the later... :waaa:

I'm hoping your post takes off OBN.
Unfortunately all I have are stories (credible stories) but no photos of what came out of the water
here in Hawaii 40+ years ago.

Let's hear some Hawaii gold tales !

Here's 1 of mine , but no gold. I lived in Maui. 4 of us took a puddle jumper to the big isle. One excursion was to Southpoint to jump off some cliffs. I drove a rental , with no insurance. We get there , jump out and I leave the car in neutral. It rolls to the edge of the cliffs as we all just stood there. It stops on a small concrete pad just past the engine block , teetering over the cliff. That's me holding the rear bumper to keep the car from going over the cliff in the winds. Fisherman in a boat below came and helped us pull the car back and saved me , it all happened fast. We all got back in and I drove away , never jumping off the cliffs as we had planned.

Holy crap that's amazing for tot lots. I've never seen a tot lot that's been around long enough to accumulate that amount of stuff

That truly is an astounding job, Craig! I was messaging @Cfmct recently and he sent me some of his old pics/videos of his finds around that time, and it is really mind-blowing to say the least.

How nice of Joe... I have a lot of it KOB, in a safety deposit box... that big star sapphire ring the middle a friend liked it so I gave it to him... didn't cost me anything plus it was on his home beach...

This was when I was strictly a pulse hunter, when I changed hunting styles, I needed a detector with disc... hunting heavy iron with a pulse would be idiotic...

That gold mostly came from one beach from an area, no one was hunting but me.. I knew the spot was a old beach no longer used and I killed it there... that is the area I pulled 200 gold from..

I love the big chunky chain. Big Cubans like that are rare to see here, though I've probably out performed on the rings this year to be honest.
Virgin beaches are an amazing thing to find, and the researching and exploring is half the fun of this hobby to me.

That bracelet was 57 grams... I remember where each of my gold finds came from...

Wow! You people sure had your day! What I wouldn’t give to take a Sovereign or Excal back a few decades.

Even in the short time I’ve been detecting, the number of good targets has dwindled. Ten years ago we would pull $15-$20 in coin off a local tourist beach. Now $5-$7 is a good day. Covid is playing a part, but the reality is people are just using less cash.

Just wait until the CBDC kicks in; yes, it’s coming! Soon jewelry will be the only good targets… and far and few between…

Totally agree. $30+ clad in a day was epic. $15-20 was a fairly common occurrence on my beaches. Now if you can get $5-7 in a day you had a great hunt. Lack of coin usage , daily card swipes on virtually everything , it's just not there anymore for daily beach hunts. The majority of my higher counts are green coins being washed in from offshore.

Yes. I prefer hunting in the wet sand/surf. Dry sand hunting is like wondering the Sahara and hoping to find an oasis.

Being the only detectorist in a small famous town like Dodge City has given me more than my share of opportunity for sure. I didn't hunt tot lots until around 2006 and it was like heaven. Our migrant town, two beef packing plants, made the tot lots mini gold mines. It was nothing to walk from a small tot lot with 3-4 pieces of gold. Sometimes I'd walk from one with 6 or more pieces of gold. And that doesn't count the silver or bling/costume jewelry.

I was just going through my foot locker where I have been hoarding my finds for nearly 50 years, and all I can say is WOW. It even freaks me out to look at the bags & bags of jewelry.

It was heaven for around 3-4 seasons and as I started to refine my jewelry hunting techniques the finds dwindled. It is still good with recent drops because of the migrants. I can still average at least 1 ring a week and several pieces of jewelry, even with me only being able to hunt about an hour at a shot now.

Back when I hunted with a friend of mine we had a good run on lots of gold at certain beaches. At the time i was married and had 3 hours to detect including travel time once or twice a week to avoid the nagging or worse. One time she jumped on one of my Excaliburs. :roll:My friend I showed the spots had a field day all the time. We got hit with a storm cycle that tore down the dunes everywhere about the time he moved to the gulf coast. The beaches still haven't ever recovered like the good old days. He thought I was fibbing when I told him our old spots never produced much after he left. It's still there. It's just been buried. If sand moves it isn't open long, don't find the heavies I know is there. One spot I would find heavy gold and for some reason a couple pouches of 8 oz lead sinkers. I haven't found a big sinker there since 2014. People detecting today starting out would never guess what's under their feet that they are walking on that might not appear again in my lifetime. So far this is my worst year ever.
