I search certain fields which are in general referred to as 'night soil fields'.
They are nightmare to search with the amount of ferrous and mon ferrous signals. ( post of other finds on the day to follow)
I remember on my uncles farm men coming and emptying the 'dry' toilet every 2 weeks. A small brick building away from the house, 1 door to go in, sit on a wooden board, do your business, finish. About 2 weeks later, men would come to a side door of the brick out building which was lower than the wooden board and proceed to shovel the ******* out into a cart pulled by 1 horse. Ah those were the good old days!!
The contents of the cart would then be spread on the local farmers fields.
The fact the coin is holed gives it more provenance than just a coin.
