I found a couple of hours to metal detect before I had to go to work yesterday. The city decided to condemn and tear down two houses in the oldest part of town last week. I have permission to hunt these properties. It was very very trashy though I still managed to find over $1 in clad and this nice 1918 D Mercury dime. My previous oldest Mercury was a 1935. Thanks for looking!

Congrats on the nice looking merc Okie! I'm sure those lots will hold some more goodies after you get through all the trash. How deep was it?

About 4.5" to 5". There's lots of trash at this site. I hit it again this afternoon for a couple of hours. Nada. I think I'll give it a rest until the next time it rains.

Most of the coins found here are from Denver. Every now and then I'll find an "S" mintmark.

That is a nice merc its worth as an F-12 $6.00 that came from the 2008 Red Book. If it is a VG-8 its worth $4.00. I would grade it F-12 but some people think I grade a little high.

I'd like to think it was in fine condition, but I know it's not. Personally I'd put it between Good and Very Good. $3.50??? It's monetary value isn't much, but that's not why I go detecting. I just like looking at the coins. They're so pretty.

I am a collector of coins and like you I don't care so much what they are worth I just love looking at them. I have some in my collection that is only worth there face value but I don't care I like the looks of them. Like the sasan b Susan B. Anthony and the Sacagawea and the new President dollors all only worth a dollor but I like em anyway.
