I haven't went back to my DFX since I bought the Vision yet. I did find some silver last week at the last S.M.A.R.T.S. club hunt with the DFX though.

No.1
iron targets (depending on size, depth and soil moisture) will sometimes sound good, pretty good,or iffy
especially
if your off your target just a little.
Makesure
you pinpoint accurately and find the center of your target and then re-sweep it in motion mode again , most of the time the iron target will sound more like a junk one or null out completely

determining size of a target.
on the dfx the pinpoint trigger and the V.C.O.on will help find the center a target and tell how deep it is ,if you pull the trigger again while over this target you will be shrinking the target size and 9 times out of 10 a coin size object or smaller will disappear or almost disappear completely (depending on the depth of this target and actual size).but your soda can size and bigger targets will still have a good size area in this second pinpoint mode.but again you have to be accurately over the center of your target on the first pinpoint

I picked up my DFX because of the better selection of coils. No DD coils for my XLT. I've had good luck with the 6X10DD but giving up a little depth. Got a super 12 and like the depth but boy does it get heavy if I hunt for any length of time.

It's a basic thing, but I did not know about it until I was told by another DFX user. Use your tone ID. Pretty soon, you will be able to distinguish Ferrous from non-ferrous, a penny from a nickel, a quarter from a pull tab, etc. I never go strictly from sound, but depending on what you are hunting for, this can alert you to something that you might have missed otherwise.

Well i am new to this site and MD'ing all together. I now have a DFX with a bullseye II PP and i have tried hiting local parks and such with very little luck. I live in gastonia so there are not too many places around here to hunt. I don't know if i am doing something wrong or what but sometimes i will have a great signal but when i dig it up it goes away. Can anyone help??

DFXrookie
Hi All,
Well, I am new to this forum and the DFX classroom. I have a DFX that came
with the wideband 9.5" concentric coil, I found a 1899 seated quarter so I
purchased a 10" D2 coil and it is really sensitive to the power lines and the
transformer close to my house, so I am thinking about switching back to the
wideband for treasure hunting around my house and use the 10" D2 coil for
searching a open field close by or away from power lines.
I also have a XLT that I have never used, it has the original coil that came
with it, I may have to give it a try, not sure what frequencies that it operates
on, but it might be worth a try. I have 5 acres that I can detect on, a lot of
the land is woods, trees and honeysuckle. I have a few programs that I am
using, the one that I just started using is for silver, quarters and dimes, so
far I have been able to stay away from the pull tabs, brass shell cases
and other junk.
