in my front yard which has a lot of iron. Just going through trying to unmask and digging all iron signals to rid the yard of nails and such. Decided to try some low sense settings, so set the sens at 20, thres at -3, DE and disc at 0. Dug up lots of nails and then said what the heck let me try sense at 1 (ONE). I had to set the thres up to +3 but still got lots of signals. Got a nice faint whisper signal in the iron range and dug a very rusty modern 12p nail at 6.5"! Thought maybe a fluke, but went along and got another repeatable whisper in the iron range and dug a piece of nail about 1.5" long and very, very rusty at 6.75"! Depth meter was correct on both of these and I didn't believe it either time...I thought I was going to find a very small piece of wire or something about an inch down. Now remember this is with the sense at 1 and the thresh at +3. I was hunting in 1 monotone (which I really like, btw). Now there's a guy who posted a video of an F70 finding a nickel at something like 8" with the sense at 1, but he had his thresh maxxed out at +9. Might have to try this ultra low sense in the field sometime while on an actual hunt. The nice thing about it is you don't get the many mixed signals like you do with the sense up high. But you still get good depth. Oh, btw, my ground balance was 73.

Now you're talking...experimenting with different things and learning.
That is my life in this hobby, I find something that kinda seems to work then hone it till I have it down just right.

I have tried that low sense in iron thing, but other things work better for me in my iron filled environment.

If I am not in all metal or DP I too love to use monotone and most of the time I do.

What was strange for me with high +9 thresh the fainter the signal was on sat a 5 inch quarter. When I lower the thresh it gets back to normal f70 tones?

I like to hunt quiet if I can do I normally use 40-60 sens -2/-1 thresh and 5 descrim.
Nice write up on findmall DIGGER your spot on in the south 8-12 is fantacy land. Deepest I've ever dug was a 7 inch wheat in almost pure clay no nails or trash.

There's a big difference in depth between going from disc 1 to disc 0. Zero's like a boost ...at least on my machine. Lots of times you'll get more chatter at 0 though. I'm always changing things up when I hunt depending on what site I'm at and what I'm looking for. When I go to one of my modern park sites I usually hunt in disc 1, sense anywhere from 40-60, thresh -3 to 0 and usually DP tones and DE mode. This is a great clad getter for settings. I'm going to start trying even lower sense and see what happens.

I found this today, disc at 4, DP, sense 75, thresh -1, DE....and it was quiet.
Been over this spot before but missed it, DP made it jump out at me even though it was a very quick signal.
Might have been standing straight up down there.

Isn't that puzzling? It's almost like it's a whole new detector with a few tweaks. What ever they did. This thing can be a Shallow speed sweeper or a depth demon!

I spend bout an hour today looking at USGS historical maps (best tool ever for finding old houses and old churches). I found an old on maps from 1920-1975 than it was gone.



The Tallant Church is new next to a trailer park, but is owned by the land owner next to it. I'm gonna knock the door Friday or sat and check it out.. f70 in tow!

Went out yesterday to an old school yard I've hit quite a few times already. I think the school was built in the early 40's, but I've only found 2 or 3 wheats. I decided to try these low sense settings so I set the sense to 21 and thresh to +6, DE, monotone and disc at 0. Went over an area that I've hit 3 or 4 times with the f70 and once with the compadre. With these low settings I hit 4 nickels, one dime, 5 zincolns and one copper memorial. I don't think any of these were over 4" deep. However in my never ending quest to find gold rings, I dug up 6 or 7 old beavertail pulltabs. Some of those were in the 6" deep range and gave a solid ID of 39-41. I thought that was pretty impressive depth for the sensitivity at only 21.

Depending on your soil I bet you could get deeper still...this is just where the targets happened to be on this hunt.

Thanks Digger. Interesting these low sense settings. Quiet, yet still deep enough for just about any clad. If you go through the site with these low settings you'll get better results the next time around with higher settings.

Did you ever read something about the F75 having a "break" in the sense settings at 20 and below where the power level is "lower" for that whole lower end from 1-20 and 21 and above where it gets stronger? I just read this somewhere and can't remember where. Wished I'd paid closer attention. Just wondering if that holds true for the F70 also? That's why I had the sense at 21.

Below 5 and over 20 on the disc makes the F70, and the others, a bit more sensitive because they are programmed to discriminate differently above and below that range.
The most quiet is usually between 5 and 20.
