Got out yesterday and hit four different places. One place I had never detected before. Got a little over $9 in clad and lots of trash, but no jewelry which is what I really hunt for. I did get a really strong 92 signal near a ballfield and thought it might be a big silver ring or at least a half dollar, but it ended up being a neat stack of 6 quarters. That is by far my biggest coin spill...and such a neat stack

Today was a perfect day to hunt but my schedule wouldn't permit.

Here is the way I look at it...
I love finding jewelry, especially gold, but more often then not I find silver jewelry.
Very cool but with prices on silver being what they are not much sense in sending it into melt if I can get more if I sell these pieces as jewelry.
But being a lazy cuss I never seem to get off my butt to even do that for a few reasons.
I don't have yard sales, never go to the flea market to sell anymore and both places I figure I could get at least $10 for decent silver rings, maybe a bit more for nice chains if I did.
I could go on eBay but the fees can kill you, Etsy is another site I might try or I can look for others but let me repeat...lazy.

On the other hand in the 6.5 years I have been doing this I probably have averaged close to $200 a year in clad more or less.
Conservatively $1200 in almost free money minus gas and batteries.
I have to clean it but I have a tumbler for that and I bought that thing with clad money, by the way.
I have bought lots of other things with that clad too, diggers, coils, detectors and more.
So when I see posts about people knocking finding clad and getting frustrated if they don't find jewelry, especially the more common silver, I don't know what to make of it.
Add up the clad you find and most will discover you can buy some nice jewelry if you want to.
Nice stuff, pieces you or your wife actually like and would be proud to wear or even gold instead.
I get finding jewelry is a thrill and I love doing it but filling my pocket with clad has value too and I don't mind digging it...in my case it is probably worth more to me right now than all the silver jewelry I am still sitting on and it was much easier to turn it into spending money than my jewelry...because it already is.
One day that silver jewelry will show a return too, gotta get over that lazy thing first, though.

I'm not complaining about finding clad. I love getting a quarter signal! But I still like the thrill of jewelry even if it's fake. I also would like the thrill of finding silver coins, but I just can't seem to find any at my sites. I'm really trying though...trying different settings, listening for faint, jumpy siganls and so on. And yeah, that clad adds up.

I heard that digger! That's why I love tot lots coins everywhere! I only started finding silver when I started knocking doors. I see these guys digging KGIII and reals, knowing I may never find any but each signal I get could be something amazing.

NC...have you tried knocking on a few doors or in my case just talking to people I see outside and asking if I can hunt their lawn?
Some only do this, others like me mix it up with my park hunting but there is a better chance of finding silver in virgin sites then pounded ones.
Look at that Walker I just found, I had been walking by this guy's house forever because he smokes and is not allowed to do it inside so I say hello to him on my way to my local park all the time and on my way back most days too.
Finally I just asked after a good rain, he said sure and within first minute I came up with that half.
Plus I still find silver in public parks here and there too.
I don't obsess about it though, even though I am locked into this life and death battle with bruinvikes...if it happens it happens.
Sometimes, if you just relax and enjoy the moment out of the blue some great things might happen when you least expect it.

DIGGER is correct. Silver is in public places but it may be extreamly difficult to reach.
I knock on doors expecting to get denied. I say thank you and have s wonderful day. On to the next house. If your looking for silver they are in people's yards!

I don't always hunt permissions cause I enjoy a good cigar while I hunt, so I don't want to offend them on their lawn with a big stogie hanging out my mouth.

But you see these guys posting loads of silver daily?? They been door knocking!
I did door to door sales in college so speaking to people comes naturally and I got rejected a lot selling, but kept knocking till I got a yes!

This coin was next door to where I grew up. I must have ran over it 1000 times playing!
4 inches down it dang high tone glory. Door knocking to me is key to getting silver, which is my goal each time I hunt.

NC, I have to agree with D27 and DT. I mean, I've been hunting the same two dinky little parks by my house for almost two years now and every once in a great while I am able to get my coil over a silver coin. But keep in mind that there could've been previous hunters that snagged the majority of the loot. Whereas you probably would have a much greater chance on virgin ground like a private residence. Good luck in your quest for permissions and old silver coins.

I totally agree with you guys...I really need to get out there and knock on some doors. Just can't get the nerve up yet
The other thing is that I don't live in town. Town is about a 17 minute drive from here. There is a small park in town that I've hit quite a few times already. It's the trashy park where there were three houses from at least the 50's that used to stand there. I've pulled 5 or 6 wheats out of there, but no silver. I'm going to keep going back though. Usually no one's there as there's only one swingset and two outdoor grills with picnic tables...a small park. But I keep hoping I'll meet someone there who lives in town and maybe they'll let me detect their yard. This is an old town that was founded in the late 1700's. So there's hope

...you keep saying "in town", do you live out n the country? If so, start knocking on doors out there. Find an old farm house and seek permission there. Word of mouth will travel fast. I live out in the country and word is starting to travel. In fact, my next door neighbor is the predominant farmer in this area and I've already secured permission at all of his properties (he owns 700 acres of farmland) and I'm trying to get permission to detect his brother's properties. Also, I've become pretty good friends with the guy that does maintenance work on farmer's tractors in the area so I've got him spreading the word too.
