well braved to cold this mornig and hit the "HILL", The history of this place would make one think that there should be really good stuff on it. Before 1891 it was owned by a family who logged it for the pine trees, and there was an old factory built there in the 1870s (so says the 1870 map). i did find an old foundation around the area where the map showed it. The family sold it to the town and the town made it into a park / picnick grounds 1891. it was very popular in those days and a trolley was even built to bring people there from surrounding towns. It continued to be popular up untill the late 1920s just before the depression, thats when people lost interest in recreation. During the depression people were hired to plant oaks and build paths and campsites, and in the fourties a ski slope was built on the face of one side. This operated untill the 1990s when it was closed down for good. With a history like that one would think there are lots of good stuff and, its hard to imagine that there wouldn't be. I've hunted this place many times when i first got into detecting a year ago, and struck out every time. I hit the slope nothing but clad, i hit the camps more clad and an occasional wheat. Then i found a silver spoon from the 1800s, but even with that I stopped going there as i thought that there isnt anything worth finding, but in the back of my mind i belived there are coins up there, so one day i decided to try again under " look out rock", and hit 2 mecs and a 40s washington. then on other hunts i hit a v nickle, a rosie , a 1871 canadian penny, and today a nice barber half.
So i think if the history and signs are there dont give up if its a very large area. the good stuf will be spread out.
