Wow, incredible hunt. Look at that pile of medals! I would be thrilled with just one.and also the big silver, congrats

It looked as though the medals were buried while still in their cardboard presentation boxes because I found bits of blue cardboard mixed in with the medals along with pieces of the ribbons and the pins that they hung from.

It took a while to dig them all out and I remember wondering how many there would be. There might be dozens or hundreds? I didn't want to dig hundreds! I was almost at the point of stopping when the last medal came out. By then it was getting dark fast so I bagged them up and left.

Terry was a draftee, a protestant, had blood type O, and got his first tetanus shot in 1943 and hist booster in 1944...

He was from Illinois, Michigan, or Wisconsin

Nice finds! What are the black cross looking ones? I’ve found one as well and couldn’t really find anything about it.

They are Army marksmanship awards. They hung various weapon strips off of the two eyelets - usually the word Rifle.

Great hunt! I've searched a WWII training camp here in Texas - I found a group of several of the marksmanship pins that looked like they'd all been buried in a box or envelope together. I think when those camps were shut down they just tossed a lot of stuff.
