Under the sun, old clothesline

I've had my eye on an old house (1930's probably) for some time.

Finally, I met the folks who live there and got permission to hunt
the clothesline.

I met up with the man of the house this morning and before I could
say anything, he said, "Keep whatever you find, just show me what you
find, I'm interested. "

I brought up the idea of hunting the whole yard and having him help
me when he can and he seemed to like that idea.

So, they left me alone, going off to work or somewhere. The yard is
very pleasant because it's ungroomed, has a country feel, but the
heat was a bit much this morning and I had to stop for another morning
before I was really tired out.

I scoured the clothesline but the only things of interest were two old buttons,
and a 1947 penny. I love buttons and the larger one is a keeper.

I'm looking forward to what the yard might hold. Did I say I love this hobby?

I only had permission for the clothesline, tommorrow I bring up
doing the yard. Besides, no way I could have done all that today,
did you notice how warm it's getting JB? Probably warmer out
there where you live in the swamp land with the gators. :D

Steve, if you check in again, maybe you can answer a question about
my buttons.

Both were bent. The smaller one very much so, the larger one only on one
portion. Now I know my screwdriver type digger can do some
damage and I have to be careful but I don't think I bent them this much.
What causes that?

Can their sojourn underground bend them? Maybe they were just run
over by a car in the past? They are both either copper or brass.

CC - the bent one in the bottom of the pic looks like it was hit dead center - maybe by a rock stepped on or such. If they are brass or copper that's a fairly soft metal. I don't think your digger did it. Any person or animal could bend it before being buried. Also, if your digger did it then an obvious scratch/mark would show. Especially with brass & copper.
At an old CW site I have dug lots of eagle buttons that are bent like this, probably 50 % of them , horses & soldiers. Steve in so az
