I went back to the "hot spot" and found the attached Barber half, a V nickel, a Merc dime, 24 more wheatbacks and a few other goodies.

The following day I went with another friend to detect around his cottage on a local lake and found a 1960 Rosy and a silver pendant. Three days in a row and had a great time and was really lucky to find so many good finds. I did dig a lot of targets, I included a picture of the junk I uncovered during these three hunts. We all know we have to work for our finds, its not silver everytime. LOL
Happy hunting, Charlie

Selden Patent

Great bunch of finds, Charlie,

Here's some information on the small plate with the "Licensed SELDEN Patent" stamped on it. Very cool item, I think.

First, the Wikipedia article on George Selden and his patent for a "Road Engine" (He was from Rochester, New York, according to the patent)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_B._Selden

The Patent itself (November 5, 1895 - Patent number 549160) When you get to this link, go to the BLUE box on the right side of page, and click on "Download PDF", which pulls up the patent and drawings of the vehicle.

I was in such a hurry last night to finish my posts ( and get to the football game party) that I didn't describe how lucky I was to find the half dollar. I had received a 20 signal on the Nox and was thinking penny and was going to skip it but it was loud and I know that several of my good finds were in that area so figuring it was shallow and an easy dig ..... well 4 inches down I found a corroded jackknife. After removing it I checked the hole and saw a jumpy reading going from 24 to 29 and momentarily to 33. So I was hoping it was a silver dime with a piece of trash next to it. Two more inches down I found a cut nail. Removed that and rechecked - now I see a more constant 32 -33 - I am now getting excited. At almost nine inches I was shocked to see a shiny disc. Couldn't believe I pulled that out of the hole. I ALMOST PASSED IT UP- I wonder how many of the pennies I skip over are actually something else.
