I found this a couple of years ago near an old cabin in the mountains...I'm thinking it may be a rosette from a horse bridle, but have never seen one quite like it in my online attempts to identify it. It's brass and slightly larger than a half dollar. Any thoughts? Thanks!

UPDATE: Posting a picture of the back of the "whatzis"...thanks again for looking

Fancy whatzit! The center hole(if that is a hole) is small, like for a nail or tack. That rules out your standard drawer pull escutcheon...I think. The loop attached kind of looks like it was added, like a home modification to make a buckle?

I don't think the loop was added after the fact...the photo sort of looks that way because of some oxidation on the metal where it joins with the main part of the whatzis...at any rate it IS a cool find!
