ring #10. 2nd this week, third this month. found at the same soccer field as the claddagh ring I found recently. about 2 inches down. rang up 85 on my at pro. this one is a really nice find. I thought it was silver at first. it's platinum. it's stamped (950), and weighs 8.9 grams. has a yellow stone, which I believe is coral. maybe someone can identify for sure.

I really am sorry BUT I really think you are mistaken. Platinum does NOT ring up that high. Silver rings are mostly .925 however some are .950 pure. I found one the day before yesterday. Sterling is .925. 950 is more pure than sterling.

Nice old find though.

from what I've read. if it is marked .925, .950 it is silver. if it is 950, 960 it is platinum. the difference being no decimal point. not positive though. either way, I'm happy.

update.... took it to a jeweler. it is indeed silver. as far as the stone. she couldn't tell me for sure. could be coral, bone, agate, or something that was colored and depending how long it was in the ground, the color could have leeched out. she commented that a 950 ring is not the norm. usually 925

Yes not the norm for sure. I have found over 300 silver rings. Well over. 33 so far this year. My very FIRST and only 950 was two days ago.

A keeper for any collection.

That ring would also weigh at least twice as much if it were platinum...

Cool old silver ring, congrats!!

<*)))>{

Congrats on the old silver !! I agree with others here. I found a very nice PLAT ring last season and it came in a 48 on the AT pro....still a nice find though....HH !

That is indeed a sweet ring. Bummer it isn't Plat, BUT it is old, pure, and a nice conversation piece.

I was thinking it could be bone possibly given the color. Nice save.

Silver, platinum, whatever, that is a beauty, and looks old. Maybe the reason it's 950 instead of 925, because it has some age. Would be great to find what is in the center, exactly. Definitely unique and a find I'd love to have made myself.......;)

Congrats!

The stone could be a lot of things. A brief search on Google produces examples that resemble your stone in Jasper, yellow Jade, and yellow Topaz. It's my opinion that yellow Jade resembles it the most.

Platinum I dug was a quarter tone on the fisher f2, a high tone, stamped 950 PLAT.

Depends on your detector I would imagine.

No offense, that's an ugly ring...but I'll take ugly silver all day long! Congrats on a honker!

plat ring,,,,,the stone must be something just as valuable...sweet ring, I dont know if sweet is the word for this one, perhaps ATOMIC!!
