Headed to the lake to try and see what the waters would give up. First from the depths was a nice James Avery Fireman's medallion. I couldn't believe my luck when I fished out another piece of JA's jewelry, a nice cross medallion. Very next target was the silver ring.

I was hunting with the Nox 800 in chest deep fresh water for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours total.

Got home and unloaded everything and noticed my screen was foggy, upon closer inspection I could see water behind the screen. I bought this machine this past week because my first 800's warranty expired, this one is a little over a year old.

Looks like it'll be taking a trip to the repair center in Pa. this week.

Very nice sterlings!

Sorry about the Nox's .. Makes one cringe, I was messaged by a couple local hunter this week. Theirs flooded and they were pulling out the Excalibur's.

Nice finds. Shame about the Nox. You would think ML would improve the quality over time and this would not be an issue by now.

If you have not yet sent it off to Minelab you might want to check if the water is just under your screensaver.

Those are some nice medallions. Sorry to hear about the issues on the Nox.

My hunting buddy got water in the module just from the rain last Monday. I don't use my Nox with the thought of it being waterproof. We'll see if the new Nokta SMF detector is truly waterproof. I think it will be. My Multi Kruzer never leaked.

Not surprising. Mine went down from just a light beach shower rinse. Now mine goes no where near water.

Nice hunt! Sorry to hear about the Nox water intrusion! This is the main reason that I recently purchased a Nokta Makro Simplex+, to use for hunts in freshwater. I'd rather have that flood instead of my Nox! The Simplex is kinda the sacrificial lamb.

I think there's another membrane between the clear plastic screen and the lcd itself. Mine will fog up if its hot outside and i dunk it in really cold water. It might just be condensation...i would leave it in the sunlight to see if it evaporates. It appears yours is still working despite the moisture.

Sorry to hear you ran into that problem. You'd think Minelab would step up their game and fix a well known issue. Maybe they feel its cheaper to fix/replace the machines that go bad rather than retool and fix the problem correctly before it even leaves the factory. Or maybe their plan is to get a boost in sales once machines get past their warranty coverage period and people drown them. They're definitely not doing good by their customers on this issue. Dont know that I would water hunt with a nox unless it was under warranty.

I decided to take the Nox out for another dip today since it was compromised anyway. It ran flawless until about 2 hours in when it started chirping and acting erratic. At first, I thought it was emi, but, I knew the writing was on the wall lol. Got home and fired the machine up, totally unstable and then it starting making a constant squeal then up pops a ER message and it shut down. I did this 3-4 times until it displayed the no coil message and shut down. So, I took a picture of it, took it off the shaft and have it boxed and ready to go as soon as I get the RMA#

That blows. Hopefully they get it replaced quickly.

All of the posts about drowned Nox's are certainly concerning. It would be interesting to find data in terms of % of units returned to ML for warranty issues that were for water intrusion. It doesnt seem like ML is too concerned about it.

Nice silvers!

So far I havent had a problem with my NOX, but then I havent taken it into the water very much and then its only mostly shaft deep. I hate reading stories like that. Please post an update on what ML said about the seal failure.

This happens to all nox's eventually if you water hunt.
I'd love it if they pinged off the lcd, buttons and external speaker. Spend the dosh on better waterproofing.

Nice finds!
Yup, the nox is a nice idea but they flood far too often. Downtime between replacements gets old after awhile...

Never had mine in the water. Rain and mud is all. I would like to see some statistics on the issue. Obviously there is a problem, although it's tough to get a feel for just how bad it is. I watch the Hoover Boys every week and of course the last couple of years they have added people who hunt with the Equinox and started doing water hunt videos. I never have heard any mention of leaking. Kurt mentioned in the last video he waiting for water proof headphones before he starts using his in the water.
