Twas a dreary wet morning, but the temperature was pleasant. Started out at an abandoned farm that's just a cellar hole/foundation. Really just waiting for spring for this one too (when the grass is matted down) but gave 'er a go in the spots I could get to. Started with some wheat pennies and two silver plated spoons. A little of this and that and finally hit on an indian! Then to top it off, got a nice number 4 W.E.B. crotal bell that is intact. Love it! Will be back...also thinking about digging out the cistern if I get the motivation (and maybe carrying out that concrete fawn??)

Next was a field of soybeans/home site I found a couple cool suspender clips at last fall. In between the can slaw I pulled an aluminum 1922 dog license. Sweet! Also found some sort of old clasp which has the maker's name on the back. I think I've seen Dodd on other such things I've found; will have to look it up.

Was quite muddy, so moved to higher ground. Sun came out and it was a beautiful day. Back to the field with the old school house and 4H building that keeps on giving. Was able to grab another indian (!!). Also found a V-nickel; man, it's been a while since I've gotten over one of those!

Made it back in time to go trick-or-treating with the family. Lotta people giving out full size candy bars this year! One lady was giving 50 cent pieces...of course we had to discuss how to check for silver....

Congrats on the digs! You know there's more out there.....waiting for you.

I smelled silver from looking at pics

Gotta be! I haven’t found a silver coin in quite a while. But the Indian cents have been jumping out of the ground at me so I’m a happy camper in the coin department

You ever sift a cellar hole? Was thinking of trying it if we get some dry weather

I have not, but would definitely be a good idea. I've seen a few on here do it with some moderate success. Buttons, marbles, etc... Post back if you try it out! One thing I DO want to start doing (with proper safety equipment) is finding the old privies at these cellar holes and digging those out. It wasn't uncommon for people to make 3-4 different trash pits. It would be LOADED with stuff too, granted noone has ever dug it out before....

Lots of nice digs ! I Really like that bell ! i haven't seen one with a horse on the bottom before !
