Grading a Seated Half Dime

I'm not a grading expert, but I'd call it VF+ or EF with environmental damage. I think if you submitted it to a grading service, they would note the environmental damage on the slab.
However, I wouldn't kick it out of my collection, if I had it.

Want to get better at grading U.S. coins? The Professional Coin Grading Service, aka PCGS, has a couple of handy APPS for mobile devices. In the APP Store or Google Play, search for PCGS, and you’ll find PCGS Photograde and Price Guide.

Without the damage your coin would most likely grade XF and possibly even AU but the damage it has basically kills it. A real shame because it shows so much detail...most silver coins come out of the ground clean....was this one dug at a site that had a fire?

I believe the PGS would return it ungraded.
