Hey Folks,

Found an old token/coin coupon/I don't know. My current best guess is some kind of discount coin from a hatter in Kansas City. This was not found anywhere near Kansas City. I found a picture online, but no information other than what I can already get off the coin. I also found a similar piece, and that dated from 1850. It was just another hatter discount coin, so that does not mean that this one is that old. Either way, it was a cool find. It anyone has any details or dates for this, that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Update:

After some digging, I found a Kansas City Directory from 1883 with a listing for "Smith & Rieger, hat & caps, 554 Main". That matches everything on the coin, so at this point, 1883 is the best time frame for the coin. I will keep digging and see what else I can find.

Interesting! Maybe they had more than one shop. I was able to find out a little more on Mr. Rieger. His name is William V Rieger, and in 1883 he lived at 1213 Wyandotte. I will keep plucking away at this.
