Found this yesterday. Tumbled it with some pennies and it cleaned up nicely but wondering what purpose it once served. About 3/4ths of an inch with a fluted end. Horizontal striations along the sides.

Any ideas what it is/was?

My first impression was it was a sleeve for a screw. I've seen similar shaped sleeves that act as kind of a bearing for small wheels (think roller blades, heelies, etc).

+2 What Sage said because your piece looks like copper and not brass.
The striations are from the clamp/form that held the tubing while the flare was
made.

First impression is that it looks similar to the flared end of a brake line..or a sleeve of some type..and it looks cut with a tubing/pipe cutter..that or the little lip on the inside is leftover material from machining..my guess is a cut off end from copper brake line..

Most brake lines are stainless and a smaller diameter. This looks like copper from a natural gas/propane line.

Lol.. I only said it looked similar..not identical to (big difference).and you can indeed buy all the copper brake line you want..it’s common...most brake lines are steel with a corrosion resistant coating.. not stainless..
