I am admittedly brand new at this! I bought a Garrett ACE250 because my 10 year old son took an interest in it. On his first backyard search, we found the following. Thoughts? Thank you!

Soak the part in raw molasses mixed with water to remove heavy rust.
Then post another picture, so we can see the results !

Raw molasses, the kind cattle farmers buy at feed stores is a chelating agent.

There are lots of links on the web that give ratios for mixing and soaking times.

Looks like the center part of a snaffle bit to me. There are many styles, but looks along that line.
