I found this while detecting in my backyard, where ive been finding a lot of 1900-1930's stuff in the ground. At first I thought belt buckle, but its way too big and heavy. Someone else thought saddle strap, and half a horse shoe was dug nearby, but the words throw me off. On top line it says "SUPERB"; second line on top inside scroll " NEWARK STONEWORKS". On the bottom inside scroll iit says "CHICAGO, ILL" .

I haven't been able to find a date and the thing weighs about 7 oz.

Any ideas what the thing could have been used for? Thanks in advance.

Looks to me like a 'window frame' that would have been bolted onto a cast iron coal stove, with isinglass trapped between this frame and the stove.

Google Newark StoVeworks.

You are on track! I tried "stoneworks" and was finding nothing but on a different search engine, "stoVeworks" was automatically popping up. Still not much info as far as I can see so far. I would love to see an approximate size and type of stove this would be attached to. It seems small...maybe on the pipe?

Thanks!

I agree with Foiled Again, it looks like it may be a "Superb Windsor No. ?" 3 or maybe it says 8
