Does anyone have any idea what this is? It looks like a copper ring that was nailed or tacked to something and then overlayed with silver. You can see holes all the way around the inside ring.

Maybe part of a napkin holder? Those are good looking hallmarks for something obviously plated. Odd, for sure.

Those old English hallmarks can be a challenge to decipher. First, is the Lion passant on the left. That means it is sterling silver: (the solid sterling outer layer that looks overlaid onto copper; it's not plated) The next symbol is obscured, but I believe it is a town mark for London, which would mean the "I" inside that particular shaped shield, indicates the year 1884. The "B" below all that might be the maker's mark, but I couldn't find that one.
So what was it? Some kind of collar ring, like on a cane, or vase, or umbrella handle, or salt shaker, or ???

Awesome! Thank you very much. I found similar bands on walking sticks made by Briggs, but they have more than just a "B" maker mark.
