You were correct.... It broke when I was checking what you suggested & by golly there was a cresent shaped hole

It would if the lip of the whistle didn't break.... I tried but my lips covered it & it slightly does when blowing into it

"Slightly" means probably a dog whistle.
Unlike regular whistles they are mostly silent but dogs sure can hear them and take notice.
That is a bummer that it broke, at least the mystery is solved.

I had a blind date when I was in my mid twenties. We went for a walk in the park and a guy was blowing a silent dog whistle and it hurt my date's ears so much she had to put her hands over her ears.
