At my high school which I attended 20 years ago, there was this hill or mound surrounded by a stone wall and a large tree on it. It seems the tree is no longer there but a stone is in its place.
For the life of me, I can't imagine why they have kept this all these years, surrounded by a stone while everything else was cleared for development. The school has been there many years and was probably farmland before it was built.

I'm wondering how I might go about finding out what it is, and possibly detecting it. Here is a photo zoomed in of the track with the mound.

I don't think so, this was all farmland and if anything was hazardous, I'm sure they wouldn't build a track there and let us sit on it. Plus notice the grass there is all green while everything else is not.

Right up the road from my home, there were many stone box graves found near a small lake. I read about it in a publication from the 1800s. Also, near a big field up the road is a burial mound that's kept secret.

If so that would be very cool and not out of the realm of possibility. I'm in Nashville TN. Not far from me on Brick Church Pike, there are the remains of a mound. Several stone figurines were found among other finds including a tiled floor and a Chief was buried there!

I saw it daily since I attended the school. It looks the same as it did 20 years ago except for the tree. I'll keep trying to find something in old newspapers and articles.

Have you checked with your county's genealogy society or historic society. Your local library normally has a reference room on local and state history. The library is normally very helpful on research projects. HH Jerry

I would like to believe that someone at the school’s admin would know something of it’s history. They can’t honestly be that clueless.

I would say it's a old burial mound there's a lot of them around my part of Okla.
The Osage and Pawnee Indains around here will tell you that the mounds are Bad medicine, best leave the dead alone.
